About Us
Best friends are hard to find. I was fortunate enough to have one that was also my brother - Tom. We spent years living within walking distance of each other and provided support as our families grow and/or changed. The one certainty was no matter how mad we might get at each other the next day or two we would be acting as if nothing ever happened.
Life goes by so fast that rarely are we prepared for someone to leave us. Our Aunt had passed away, so Tom, Gina (my wife) and I attended the services together. We often drove together to enjoy each other’s company. The memorial events were absolutely beautiful; however, more traditional then I preferred. As the day flew by and events concluded several family members met for drinks and an opportunity to catch up with each other. Some of the conversations around the table discussed the traditional services we had just witnessed and the astonishing costs associated with the realities of passing away.
On the long drive home Tom, Gina, and I continued down the path of less traditional Memorial services. We laughed together as I shared that I wanted to one day become a diamond, because this most valuable gemstone was cherished by women all over the world. The diamond idea was actually something Gina and I had discussed for several years – never really investigating the possibility further then being aware it could be done. She had teased I should gain weight to guaranty a larger stone for her jewelry collection. Tom shared that he had no intention to burdening anyone with the extreme cost of traditional burial services. He too would be made into a diamond. He remarked that: “As a diamond, he could provide everlasting pleasure to generations of women.” Tom always had to be one up. After all we have been told for many years that a diamond lasts forever.
Two weeks later the devastating news came out of nowhere. Tom, only 42 years of age, was taken from our world. We not only honor his wish to become a magnificent diamond, Gina and I also launched FusionGems.com to help others find this amazing alternative to tradition. An option that holds value well beyond our lives together.
